Japan’s Suga to hold talks with Pompeo in October: NHK

TOKYO (JAPAN) – Japan’s public broadcaster NHK said on Saturday that Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga will be holding talks with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in Tokyo early next month. It will be the first high-level meeting between the two allies since Suga assumed office.

Pompeo is slated to visit Tokyo for talks with foreign ministers from Japan, Australia and India, NHK reported. They will be discussing areas of cooperation, especially with regard to the pandemic and the need for a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

On Sunday, Suga will speak with US President Donald Trump over the phone.
