MAPUTO (MOZAMBIQUE) – The Mozambican army has flayed the slaying of a naked woman by men in military fatigues. Videos on social media show the woman being beaten with a stick before being shot in the back as she tries to escape.
The footage circulated on Monday shows the armed group referring to the woman as ‘al-Shabaab’ – a local term for an Islamic fundamentalist armed outfit operating in the north of the country since 2017.
The video was recorded in the northernmost province of Cabo Delgado, where soldiers are engaged in fighting Islamic militants.
According to Amnesty International, the video could have been filmed on Sept. 7.
The army, which is fighting the militants in the province having gas projects of oil majors, said the images were shocking and horrifying, and “above all condemnable”.
