Japan’s Abe makes first hospital visit after announcing resignation

TOKYO (JAPAN) – Outgoing Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Saturday visited a Tokyo hospital, his first visit ever since he announced his decision to step down because of poor health.

The prime minister’s office said the visit was related to treatment of his ulcerative colitis.

The leader has been battling ulcerative colitis for years and announced in late August he was resigning.
