Bahrain reaching out to Israel is shameful, says Iran

DUBAI (UAE) – Bahrain’s move to normalise ties with Israel indicates that it would be complicit in Israeli policies which threaten the stability in the region, said Iran on Saturday.

Bahrain’s deal, which was announced by US President Donald Trump on Friday, was struck mainly because of the island’s strained ties with Iran.

Tehran said it would hold Manama and its allies responsible for any insecurity in the region caused by Israeli interference.

Bahrain is the fourth Arab state to forge ties with Israel.

A month ago, the UAE agreed to normalise relations with Israel under a US-brokered agreement, which is due to be inked on Tuesday at a ceremony hosted by Trump.

“Bahrain’s shameful move sacrifices the Palestinian cause and decades of struggle … at the expense of the US election,” Iranian state TV quoted a foreign ministry statement.
