Weekly COVID-19 cases found to be highest since May by tracing system

LONDON (UK) – The number of positive COVID-19 cases for a week in England in late August was found to be the highest since the end of May, as shown by the latest data from the test and trace scheme showed on Thursday.

According to NHS Test and Trace, 6,732 new people were diagnosed with COVID-19 in England between 20 August and 26 August.

A first decline in weekly COVID-19 cases since July was shown in last week’s figures.

There was an increase in the number of positive cases from 75.2% to 81.4%, in the latest weekly figures. However, there was a fall in the proportion of their contacts that were reached, from 77.1% to 69.4%.

The test and trace scheme has been found to be a key factor in identifying outbreaks quickly even as British Prime Minister Boris Johnson is aiming to bring most of the country to normalcy.

From May, Britain has also raised its testing capacity.
