Britain is reviewing quarantine data, says PM Johnson spokesman

LONDON (UK) – A spokesman of Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Britain will keep its quarantine policy under review. However, he did not comment on media reports that Portugal will be added to the list of high-risk countries due to rising number of infections there.

In June, Westminster came out with a quarantine policy for those returning from high-risk nations after it came under fire for being too slow to implement a lockdown when the pandemic broke out.

The government opened travel corridors to popular tourist destinations such as Greece, Spain and France. But it reimposed the quarantine norms on France and Spain and other nations as infections began to show an uptick.

With travel curbs to Portugal lifted on August 12, many Britons made last-minute bookings. However, there are media reports that the rising number of daily new infections there could make Britain reintroduce quarantine curbs.

“We keep the data for all countries and territories under constant review. I’m not going to pre-empt any potential changes,” Johnson’s spokesman said.
