When the autumn semester begins, 2,842 educational institutions will welcome 1.4 million students. On the other hand, Wuhan University reopened on Monday.

In case there are outbreaks, the city has taken all measures to immediately switch to remote classes. Authorities have advised students to wear masks and avoid public transportation.

Schools have been instructed to carry out drills and training sessions and stock up on infection control equipment to prepare for possible outbreaks. The institutions also have to submit daily reports to the health authorities and strictly enforce social distancing.

Authorities said that overseas students and teachers who have not received a notice from their schools will not be allowed to return.

The central China city was locked down from late January and its 3,869 fatalities account for more than 80 per cent of deaths in China.

Ever since the lockdown was lifted in April, life has returned to normal in the city and there have been no new local transmissions of the virus since May 18.
