Blind of Ajax Amsterdam gets a scare as defibrillator stops momentarily during match

AMSTERDAM (THE NETHERLANDS) – Daley Blind, who is the defender of Ajax Amsterdam, will have to undergo further medical tests after his implanted heart defibrillator failed to function for a split second during Tuesday’s pre-season friendly match against Hertha Berlin, said manager Erik ten Hag.

Blind, the former Manchester United defender, collapsed on the ground late in the game which his side won 1-0 at the Johan Cruyff Arena. But he later walked off the pitch.

The 30-year-old experienced dizziness in a Champions League game last year and was diagnosed with heart muscle inflammation. But he was back in action in February after being fitted with a cardioverter defibrillator (ICD).

The ICD sends electrical pulses to regulate abnormal heart rhythms.

“He has no symptoms. The ICD went off and right after that he was fine,” Ten Hag told Ziggo Sport.

“We will do some tests and wait for the results and then make decisions.”

Blind has been included in the Netherlands’ 32-man preliminary squad for next month’s Nations League matches against Poland and Italy.
