Bill passed by House of Representatives would hamper improvements: Postal Service

WASHINGTON (US) – The Postal Service said on Sunday that a bill passed by the Democratic-led House of Representatives would hinder its capability to “improve service to the American people” and promised it could handle mail-in ballots for the election.

On Saturday, the House voted to provide the Postal Service, which is facing cash shortage, with $25 billion and halt policy changes that have stirred concerns that it would bungle the handling of the large number of mail-in ballots.

President Donald Trump flayed the measure and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said the Senate would “absolutely not pass” the stand-alone bill.

“We are concerned that some of the requirements of the Bill, while well meaning, will constrain the ability of the Postal Service to make operational changes that will improve efficiency, reduce costs, and ultimately improve service to the American people,” the Postal Service said in a statement.
