BRUSSELS (BELGIUM) – Authorities in Brussels have made wearing face masks mandatory in all public places on Wednesday. This comes after the number of infections rose to reach a government alert level that puts the city among the worst affected spots in Europe.
The headquarters of the European Union and NATO, Brussels reported an average of 50 cases per 100,000 residents over the past one week.
Be it in parks or on streets or other public places, everyone in the city has to wear masks, said the regional government.
Until recently, masks were restricted to crowded public spaces and enclosed areas such as shopping malls.
The new regulation is one of the strictest in all European capital cities.
So far, the country has witnessed as many as 10,000 deaths because of the pandemic.
