COVID-19: Catalonia to implement stricter curbs if situation does not improve

BARCELONA (SPAIN) – The autonomous region of Catalonia are likely to take stricter measures to curb the spread of coronavirus infections if the situation does not show a sign of improvement over the next 10 days, said regional leader Quim Torra on Monday.

The leader said that in many parts of the region, the data of infections was similar to the situation when the country imposed a national lockdown in March. He said his administration’s aim was to avoid taking strict measures.

On July 17, Catalan authorities advised some four million people to remain home and venture out only for essential trips. It also banned the gatherings of more than ten people and placed curbs on the occupancy of bars and restaurants as the number of infections surged in the region compared to the rest of the country.
