Forward Mbappe suffers ankle sprain during French Cup finals: PSG

MADRID (SPAIN) – Kylian Mbappe, the forward of Paris St Germain, suffered a sprained ankle during Friday’s French Cup final victory over St Etienne. His injury will be reassessed in three days, the Ligue 1 champions said on Saturday.

Following a rough tackle from Loic Perrin, the St Etienne defender caught Mbappe on the ankle and he fell on the turf in pain before he was substituted. For the challenge, Perrin was sent off as PSG won 1-0.

“Serious right ankle sprain to the external lateral compartment. To be re-evaluated in 72 hours with clinical and ankle imaging analysis,” said the club in a statement.

Mbappe, who returned to the bench with the aid of crutches after halftime, told French President Emmanuel Macron during the trophy ceremony that he heard a crack while being tackled, but did not think of a fracture.

PSG did not say if the injured player will appear in Friday’s French League Cup final against Olympique Lyonnais.
