Prime Minister Boris Johnson will take steps to ease tensions with Scotland during a visit. He said that the pandemic crisis has demonstrated the collective power of the United Kingdom. Brexit and the coronavirus outbreak have strained the ties binding England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. 

The government will allocate 100 million pounds to step up the manufacturing of vaccines for coronavirus.

The country locked horns with the European Union over the chances of forging a free trade deal. Though the bloc thinks it is unlikely, Britain is hopeful that one could be struck in September.

As the federal government intervened to prevent a surge in violent crime in Chicago, Mayor Lori Lightfoot urged witnesses to come forward with information regarding a shooting at a funeral and of a toddler.

Greek firefighters were fighting a wind-driven forest fire that burned through a pine forest. Hundreds of people were forced to evacuate near the seaside village of Kechries in the eastern Peleponnese, officials said.

Chinese state broadcaster CCTV said that a coronavirus vaccine which is being developed by China National Pharmaceutical Group (Sinopharm) could be ready for use by the end of this year.
