Britain has inked agreements to secure 90 million doses of two possible COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer Inc, BioNTech alliance and Valneva of France, the business ministry said. The ministry said the country has secured 30 million doses of the BioNTech/Pfizer shot, which is being tested.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s spokesman said that the country will continue to engage with the EU constructively in negotiations on a future relationship. However, London will not give up its rights as an independent country, he added.

Newspapers have reported that Britain will suspend its extradition pact with its former colony of Hong Kong following the straining of ties with China over the imposition of a national security law on the financial hub. On Sunday, foreign secretary Dominic Raab blamed China for gross human rights atrocities.

After three days of bargaining, finally EU leaders have made some progress over a plan to revive economies choked by the coronavirus pandemic. However, Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte warned that the talks could end in a fiasco.

As part of an endeavour to develop its scientific and technological prowess and reduce its reliance on oil, the UAE launched its debut mission to Mars. The UAE’s Hope Probe was launched from Japan’s Tanegashima Space Center at 1:58 am UAE time/6:58 am Japanese time (2158 GMT Sunday) for a seven-month journey to Mars.

 A Human Rights Watch report has revealed shocking details of abuse suffered by child athletes in Japan. After documenting the experiences of over 800 athletes in 50 sports, the report states they often undergo, physical and verbal abuse and sometimes even sexual molestation.
