LONDON (UK) – In the second test match against England in Manchester, UK, West Indies won the toss and opted to bowl. The match was delayed due to rain on Thursday.
Fast bowler Jofra Archer is not part of England after he flouted the team’s bio-security protocols. Top order batsman Joe Denly was dropped to bring in skipper Joe Root, who could not play in the first test as he had to attend the birth of his child.
Along with the pace trio comprising Stuart Broad, Sam Curran and Chris Woakes named in the playing 11, Mark Wood and James Anderson have also been rested.
“With both (Wood and Anderson) having come back from two very serious injuries, it seemed very high-risk to play them in this game,” Root said.
“We’re blessed with some fantastic players waiting in the wings. We’ve definitely got an attack that can take 20 wickets.”
West Indies, who attained victory in the first test in Southampton by four wickets taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, said there was no change to their team.
