THE HAGUE (THE NETHERLANDS) – Kosovo President Hashim Thaci arrived in The Hague on Monday to meet war crimes prosecutors. He was indicted last month for alleged war crimes and crimes against humanity during Kosovo’s 1998-99 war against Serbian rule.
Thaci said he stood for “truth, reconciliation and peace” before entering the Specialist Chambers set up to handle cases of war crimes.
According to prosecutors, Thaci, an ex-commander in the Kosovo Liberation Army (UCK), is responsible for nearly 100 killings during the war which ultimately led to Kosovo’s independence. He had previously denied involvement in any war crimes.
