ALMATY (KAZAKHSTAN) – Kazakhstan president Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday that the government would ban the sale of agricultural land to foreigners. This comes after long discussions over controversial land reform plans.
There were public protests throughout the country in 2016 over provisions in the law allowing foreign ownership of farmland. At that time, the government decided to postpone the decision until 2021. But the president said it was time to settle the festering issue once and for all.
