The latest round of Brexit talks between the chief negotiators of the UK and EU will begin with a dinner at Number 10 Downing Street. The negotiations have reached a deadlock over major differences over their future relationship.

UK’s business minister said that the country can remain a popular foreign investment hub and at the same time stand up for its values. This comes after China warned Britain that dispute over Huawei could lead to “consequences”.

As part of post-Brexit measures, the UK has slapped sanctions on 25 Russians and 20 Saudis, said foreign minister Dominic Raab, adding that it was done to curb the laundering of “blood money”. Post-Brexit, for the first time, the UK can impose asset freezes and visa bans independently.

According to US food bank managers and data from the agriculture department, the government delivered far less food aid than it had promised by the end of June. This was because it employed inexperienced firms to pack food during the pandemic.

A former scribe working as an aide to the head of Russia’s space agency was detained on charges of treason. If proved guilty, he could face up to two decades in prison. The Russian government said Ivan Safronov’s arrest was not linked to his work at Roscosmos, where he is an advisor to General Director Dmitry Rogozin.

 China is surging ahead in the race to come out with a potential vaccine to control the spread of coronavirus. Its Sinovac Biotech’s experimental vaccine is slated to become the country’s second and the third in the world to enter the final stage testing later this month.
