No need to sit down for talks with US, says North Korea

SEOUL (SOUTH KOREA) – A senior North Korean diplomat said on Saturday that Pyongyang does not feel the need to engage in discussions with Washington, which would be nothing more than “a political tool” for the US. This development comes ahead of a US envoy’s visit to Seoul.

According to Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui, the talks would not work out between the two countries as North Korea will not change its foreign policy.

“We do not feel any need to sit face to face with the US as it does not consider the DPRK-US dialogue as nothing more than a tool for grappling its political crisis,” Choe said in a statement.

US Deputy Secretary of State Stephen Biegun is scheduled to arrive in South Korea next week to talk on ways to restart the stalled negotiations with the North.

On Wednesday, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said US President Donald Trump and North Korea’s Kim Jong Un should meet again before the US elections in November.
