TEHERAN (IRAN) – The number of coronavirus cases in Iran climbed to 235,429 on Friday, with 154 deaths in the past 24 hours. This brings the death toll to 11,260.
Out of 31 provinces, eight have red status as the epidemic is on the rise. Seven provinces, including the one where Teheran is situated, are on high alert, said Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari on state TV.
Iran’s official television channel has been airing warnings such as “Coronavirus is very close” and “Let’s take the coronavirus danger seriously”.
On June 27, authorities started a drive to encourage the public to use face masks.
The country, which witnessed one of the worst virus outbreaks in the Middle East, has recorded a steep increase in infections and mortality rates as the curbs were gradually lifted starting from mid-April.
The country has been divided up into white, yellow, and red areas based on the number of infections and deaths.
