Britain places orders for 65 million needles, syringes from Becton Dickinson

LONDON (UK) – Becton Dickinson and Co said on Friday it received an order from British government for 65 million injection devices in a bid to bolster the future COVID-19 vaccination drive.

The medical equipment manufacturer said in a statement the order for syringes and needles has to be delivered by mid-September. It also said it was working closely with the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) to expand access to diagnostic testing.

In May, the firm said it was boosting the manufacturing operations to meet the rising demand for COVID-19 testing kits in the event of a second wave of infections in autumn.

Becton Dickinson recently launched a kit that gives results in three hours and an antibody test that confirms present or past exposure to coronavirus in 15 minutes.

Britain’s COVID-19 death toll rose to 43,995 on Thursday from 43,906 the day before, said government figures.
