Macron: France will not remove statues, erase history

PARIS (Europe) – French President Emmanuel Macron announced that fighting racism should not result in a “hateful” re-writing of history.

This statement comes after worldwide protests over George Floyd’s killing by a police officer in the US.

United States and many places globally have protested targeting historic figures’ statues associated with slavery or other past human rights abuses.

“I will be very clear tonight, compatriots: the Republic won’t erase any name from its history. It will forget none of its artworks, it won’t take down statues.
