Grocery sales growth in Britain slows to 5.5% in four weeks to April 19

LONDON (UK) – Grocery sales in the UK rose by 5.5% in the four weeks to April 19, a result of the slowdown from the record growth of 20.6% in March when British shoppers built up stocks before UK went on coronavirus lockdown.

Kantar announced that Britons still spent 524 million pounds extra on groceries in the four weeks in comparison to the same period last year.

On average, UK households shopped just 14 times for groceries over the past month, which marks a record low, down from 17 in more normal times. The drop in frequency was matched by an uplift in the amount spent on each trip to 26.02 pounds – this is the highest figure ever recorded by Kantar being 7 pounds greater than last year.
