CHIPPING CAMDEN, England (UK) – British costume makers who dress TV show actors are now making scrubs for the new-age celebrity- medical workers.
With their costumes making an appearance on Game of Thrones, Batman and Downton Abbey actors, they’ve now joined forces to sew scrubs for medics on the frontline of the battle against coronavirus.
Their offices range from kitchens to sheds to attics country-wise and they’re working hard to churn out uniforms for those clinicians and medics who do not usually wear them.
This effort is being led by Dulcie Scott along with a material buyer who previously worked on a medical drama. Scott had most recently created couture pieces for Ruth Wilson in BBC’s His Dark Materials.
The movement now has around 150 costume makers on board creating the garments with some who have worked on famous shows like Doctor Who, Star Wars and Outlander.
“It went way beyond anything I could have imagined. We have the most phenomenal, world-class network of costume makers helping us. It feels brilliant and restores my faith in people and I think this is wonderful. But also it’s quite heartbreaking when you see what a need there is.”
– Dulcie Scott
The group is named Helping Dress Medics and their fundraising appeal hopes to raise 1,500 pounds to source materials.
Within a two week period, the appeal raised more than 44,000 pounds and 6,000 sets of scrubs have been made so far.
Even a curtain maker has donated fabric with many factories now shut to curb the coronavirus spread.
Scott’s first set of scrubs were sent to a woman in a nearby village which coincidentally was the same day as a weekly #ClapForOurCarers appreciation for the National Health Service.
The coronavirus outbreak sparked a demand surge for everything from ventilators to scrubs. Rolls-Royce and Formula One teams, soldiers and individual volunteers have been doing what they can to fill the gap.
Scott and her team are receiving appreciation and are being cheered by the actors and writers they once worked with too!
