On Wednesday, Uber said that it may suspend the accounts of riders and drivers tested positive for coronavirus or exposed to it temporarily, under the health authorities direction.

Uber has already taken action in affected markets. Uber has put aside a team to work around the clock to support the public health authorities’ response to the coronavirus epidemic.

The team is handling communication with global law enforcement and the agents were only evaluating if accounts were confirmed to contract or have been exposed to the virus.

Uber’s detailed policy on the coronavirus outbreak has been laid out for all riders and drivers on its web page with the steps that Uber has taken to take control of the situation.

A global team has been dedicated to being guided by a public health expert for every market that Uber operated worldwide.

Last month, 240 accounts in Mexico had been suspended after having the possibility of being infected by the coronavirus.

On Saturday, Uber confirmed it would compensate drivers and delivery staff with a coronavirus diagnosis or in quarantine for 2 weeks.

Uber is also working on giving drivers disinfectants and is speaking to manufacturers for the sourcing of limited supplies. The prioritisation of disinfectant distribution in cities with the greatest need has been implemented.
