MADRID – On Thursday, Spanish opera star Placido Domingo cancelled a performance of “La Traviata” which was scheduled in Madrid’s Teatro Real after sexual misconduct allegations against him emerged.

On Tuesday, Domingo issued an apology to the women who had placed the sexual misconduct allegations on him. The American Guild of Musical Artists investigated and concluded that Domingo behaved in an inappropriate manner with female performers.

The opera singer was scheduled to sing for five nights in May as Giorgio Germont at the famous Teatro Real in Spain.

On Wednesday, the culture ministry of Spain cancelled his performances in “Luisa Fernanda” on May 14th and 15th at the Zarzuela Theatre. This move was in solidarity with those women affected by his illegal sexual misconduct.

Domingo offered to withdraw from his other shows where organisers may be uncomfortable with his presence too.
