On Wednesday, Facebook announced that it would ban advertising for cure and prevention products surrounding the coronavirus outbreak which creates a sense of urgency about the situation.

The novel-coronavirus has killed over 2,700 people after its spread from the epicenter in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

Facebook’s announcement came as it faces a lot of regulatory scrutiny over the content posted on its platform, especially regarding extreme ideology and fake news.

Claims like ‘face masks are 100% guaranteed to prevent the spread of the virus’ on advertisements shall be prohibited.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention alerted people to start preparing for the virus’ spread to the U.S. after infections began surfacing in many other countries.
