PARIS – Greenpeace activists broke into southern France’s Tricastin nuclear power plant to demand its shutdown on Friday.

Approximately 50 activists gained entry into several points of the Tricastin nuclear power plant on Friday morning, according to Greenpeace spokeswoman Cecile Genot.

The activists from Greenpeace are hoping the protests draw attention to the dangers of an ageing nuclear power plant which needs to be shut down.

French state-controlled power group EDF officials did not comment.
