Local News

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson finally greeted the new cabinet of senior ministers with a vow to repay his voters’ trust by ensuring improvements in infrastructure, cutting down crime rates and construction of more hospitals. It is yet to confirm if the March 11 budget shall go ahead in time or if it will adhere to the fiscal rules already in place

British PM Boris Johnson appointed new finance minister Rishi Sunak after Sajid Javid gave in his resignation on the rejection of the plan to replace his advisers. Sunak is a former Goldman Sachs banker and a political novice. Johnson announced a new advisory structure’s creation to give his office a bigger role in influencing the finance ministry.

World News

We have compiled the three most heartwarming stories from around the world for our daily roundup today:

  1. Wearing virtual reality goggles, Jang Ji-sung had a tearful reunion with her seven-year-old daughter, Na-yeon who died from blood-related diseases three years ago. The tearful reunion, aired last week in a documentary by South Korean broadcaster MBC, was made possible by virtual reality (VR) technology which embodied Na-yeon in a digital avatar modelled upon a child actor using photos and memories from her mother.
  2. Christina Koch, the astronaut who set a record for the longest stay in space by a woman, returned home to a dog who seemed to miss her dearly, despite being away for a year! A lot of tail-wagging and slobbery kisses ensued, to say the least.
  3. Indian police have reunited thousands of missing and trafficked children with their families using a new facial recognition app that campaigners said was a “game changer” in tackling the problem. Police in the southern state of Telangana developed the facial recognition tool as part of Operation Smile, a periodic drive to tackle child labour and missing children. They scanned through more than 3,000 records on the app and were able to reunite more than half the children with their families in January.
