LONDON – On Monday, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that starting next month, after UK’s exit from the European Union, it shall fast-track visas for leading researchers and scientists.

On Friday, Britain shall officially leave the EU, closing three years on the debate regarding its status outside the bloc.

Johnson said that the UK is open to the world’s most talented minds and will be ready to support them in transforming their ideas into reality. He announced the new scheme wherein from Feb 20th, ‘Global Talent’ visas allow scientists and researchers to get their application process sped up if endorsed by one of four national bodies. He also announced that there would be no cap on the number of these visas.

This is set to replace a similar system which was applied to non-EU nationals and was limited to 2,000 visas a year.
