KUALA LUMPUR- On Wednesday, badminton world number one Kento Momota was discharged from the hospital in Malaysia and is on his way back home to Japan. Momota was admitted in the hospital for treatment of injuries that he sustained after a vehicle collision.

The world’s top-ranked men’s singles player was spotted clearing Kuala Lampur airport security checks for his 10 am departure flight, his face covered by a white mask.

On Monday, Momota was one of the four passengers involved in the tragic accident when his van crashed into the 30-tonne truck en route to the airport. All the passengers sustained injuries and the driver of the van was killed.

With a lot of facial lacerations and a nasal bone fracture, Momota underwent treatment at a Malaysia hospital. He is expected to be Japan’s Tokyo Olympics biggest hope for gold.
