LONDON – Initial data shows that UK shoppers chose to stay home this Boxing Day, plummeting post-Christmas sales significantly for the fourth year in a row.

On December 26th, a key day for retailers, also known as Boxing Day saw a drop in footfall up to 12 pm by 10.6% as compared to the same period from a year ago. The market research was conducted by research company Springboard which also stated that bad weather may have been a possible deterrent for shoppers.

The rainy weather affected the high streets the most as customers were reluctant to step out in the morning, according to Springboard.

November Black Friday sales along with increased online shopping have brought down the shopper footfall on Boxing Day in the recent years, making it a less important trading day than it first was.
